Southport Pier

This week, the government announced a further £40 million to support communities along Britain’s coastline, in addition to the £2million Southport has already received for improvements to the grade two listed pier on the seafront.

The North West has already benefited from over £8million in the first three rounds of funding and yesterday’s latest round of funding will aim to boost economic growth and jobs in the area by attracting even more visitors to the Great British Coast.

Our local Conservative MP Damien Moore is now urging community groups and organisations in Southport to bid for their share of the Coastal Communities Fund. The fund has already provided £170 million to 278 regeneration projects around the country and has seen 2 million more people spending an additional £171 million visiting our coastal communities.

With coastal tourism worth around £8 billion to the UK economy each year this renewed commitment will allow organisations and business to benefit from thousands of new jobs and millions of pounds in investment.

Damien Moore MP commented:

“This new funding will help attract even more tourists to our coast and help our seaside towns and coastal areas thrive.”

“Following this week’s announcement that the government is investing into our coastal communities, I am delighted to see that £2million is already earmarked for Southport.”

“The investment will go toward much needed improvements on the pier and shows that we are committed to revitalising Southport’s local economy after years of decline and neglect.”

“Whilst the local Labour Party have reportedly thrown millions into Bootle for a shopping centre, it is the Conservatives nationally who are investing in Southport’s future success, ensuring it gets its fair share.”
