Mike Prendergast is the Deputy Chairman (Political) and the Spokesperson for Southport Conservatives.

Mike was elected as a Southport councillor in 2021, re-elected in May 2024, and served until May 2026. Mike has worked tirelessly to represent his constituents and put the interests of Southport first.

At a local level, Mike has championed a number of projects such as road resurfacing campaigns, improving Dukes Ward with new bench installations on Rotten Row, tree planting campaigns, new play equipment for the children’s playground at Kings Gardens and supporting local volunteer groups.

As Conservative Group Leader on Sefton Council, Mike held Labour to account on a range of issues including Children’s Social Care, Southport Pier, Southport beach, our town centre, car parking charges and has worked to ensure that all elected councillors in Sefton are now subject to mandatory DBS checks.

Mike lives in Southport with his wife and two children. He has lived in Southport for over 25 years and in his professional life runs a local solicitors practice as well as being a Notary Public. Mike attended St Mary’s College in Crosby before undertaking his A-levels at King George V Sixth Form College right here in Southport.

He read Law at Leeds University before undertaking the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in Chester. At a postgraduate level, he has undertaken the Notarial Practice Course at University College London.

Over the years, Mike has helped raise almost £200,000 for local charities and he has ran the London Marathon and Great North Run to help raise money for local good causes.

Outside of work and politics, Mike is very much a family man, spending time with his wife and two young children, supporting his beloved Liverpool FC and occasionally going for a run around Southport.
